Our driver will greet you at Rabat Airport to begin our Morocco trip (one week), by visiting the majority of Rabat’s significant attractions before heading to Fes.
On the second day of your Morocco one week from Rabat, your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel. After that, we planned to set aside the entire day to tour Fes’s highlights with a local guide. The city acts as Morocco’s cultural and religious center and is known as one of the imperial cities.
First, we go to the Royal Palace gate to begin the day. Next is the medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is beautifully preserved. You will go to the entrance of the ancient Medina, known as Bab Boujloud or the Blue Gate.
You will enter the Medina to see the tanneries, the Najjarine Fountain, and the Medrasa Bouanania. And lastly, the oldest university in the world, the Quaraouin Mosque and university.
Following that, we leave the Medina to explore “the Mellah,” the Jewish neighborhood. We take a drive to an old fortification in the afternoon to get a broad perspective of Fes and the Medina. Lastly, return to your riad.
Following a delicious breakfast, we travel south through Imouzzer to Ifrane. The city is famous for its low temperatures, snow, and alpine-style houses. It’s no surprise that it’s known as Morocco’s Switzerland. Then we visit the cedar forest, where Barbary macaques live. Feel free to feed them while walking through the forest.
Later, we will continue to Midelt, where we will have some free time for lunch. Then we drive to Merzouga via the Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass and the Ziz Valley. We will make stops along the trip to enjoy panoramic landscapes. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara desert of Merzouga.
Then you swap to camels to cross the dusty desert. You are going to stop on top of a high dune to watch the sunset. Finally, you head to the desert camp. The camp combines nomad tents with hotel-like facilities. Where you may listen to Berber drum music and dance around a campfire under a starry sky. Dinner and stay at the campsite.
After breakfast, we leave the desert to reach Rissani, Tafilalet’s old capital. Rissani is still a key trading center in the region. It has a busy souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After a tour around Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud. There, we will visit a fossilized marble workshop. We next drive via Touroug and Tinjdad palm farms to reach the Todra Gorges. The Todra River has cut a magnificent canyon through the mountains. The canyon has steep, red cliffs. These gorges are perfect for rock climbing.
Feel free to walk through the gorges and enjoy the beauty of nature. Free time for lunch at a restaurant. Then we continue to the Dades Valley, traversing Boumalne Dades. The inevitable stop at the “monkey fingers” rock formation. And on top of a mountain, watching the Dades Valley. Finally, food and a night in a hotel.
After breakfast, we will travel to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley. The Rose Festival takes place in May. Locals sell a variety of rose products. These include perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics. We then drive through the palm orchards of Skoura. Later, we arrive at Ouarzazate, also known as the Desert Gate.
We will visit film studios. They make amazing movies. Then, we will leave to see the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. UNESCO classified this walled village as a World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has appeared in various films, such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy. And TV shows like Game of Thrones. Then we travel to Marrakech.
Driving across Tizi-N-Tichka Pass and the High Atlas Mountains. We will make stops for lunch and to take photographs at interesting locations. Stay overnight hotel in Marrakech or Riad.
After a hearty breakfast, we will see the highlights of Marrakech with a native guide. The city is identified as one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. The visit includes the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the Ben Youssef Quranic Mosque. And a tour around Morocco’s largest traditional souk.
Free time for lunch in Jemaa El-Fna Square. Later, you’ll see the Koutoubia mosque. It’s the largest in Marrakech. You’ll also see the Majorelle Garden. Finally, get to your Riad / Hotel. Then feel free to explore Jemaa El-Fna on your own.
